~Welcome~

Unicorn Bait is the story of an Earth woman's adventures on another planet. She seeks a unicorn to transport her home. It won't be easy, especially since she's forced to marry this guy, and he's kind of scary.

Comments are welcome. An account is not required. I try to respond to comments in a timely fashion. Thanks for stopping by!

You can purchase the story from several different vendors. First there's Smashwords who has several different formats of Unicorn Bait available, there's also Barnes and Noble for the Nook, the iBookstore has it for your Apple devices, and finally, you can get it on your Kindle too.

To start reading the story here, jump to Chapter 1.

Loved this story! I especially liked how it didn't end when one expected it to. I hope there are more adventures of this crew.

Thanks, Mary. There may be a sequel in the future.

Thanks, Sarah. I hope there's a sequel too! Mr. Squibbles and I will put our heads together and come with something if we don't drink too much wine.

I just finished reading your book and loved it. It was so much fun, easy to read and could not put it down. Will love a sequel, maybe some meet the parents situation with Tavik in our world :)

S.A. Hunter said...

Thank you, Zulmapicon. I have played with the idea of Tavik meeting the parents. It would be in a word awkward. Dad would want to know about his job, Mom would want to know about family and bro would be stirring trouble as if he needed to. Naiomi would totally prick herself with an alicorn to be anywhere instead of there. Even a place with large tree guards.

I just finished ths book in record timing. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. The storyline, characters, setting everything was so amazing. The suprises just kept coming. Tavik & Naomi made a wonderful couple and I just wanted to keep reading about them. I really hope there will be a sequel or series, I'll definately be keeping an eye out for it. Thanks for an awesome read!

I am a very quick reader, and If the story doesn't intrigue me with in the first couple of pages, then I will put it away. I love books and I re-read them until pages fall out (a little more difficult with the whole downloading and stuff) I keep books around like old friends, when my day is going down hill, I retreat into my books. I have books that I read when I was barely into double digits, that I still reread to this day. they are my favorites. I now have a story that sits at the top of that list. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. sequel or not, i will reread this story, again and again.

I just finished reading Unicorn Bait. I've always wanted to find a good book about Unicorns but I could never find one till I came across your book. I love the characters and also the alternate world you created. And the way Unicorns are described in this book is exactly how I've always pictured them : Pure yet dangerous. Thank you for writing a wonderful book. I look forward to the sequel. :]

Oh! I forgot to mention....I stayed up all night because I could not stop reading this book.

Everyone said it all before me, loved this book couldn't put it down. Truly a good read, can't wait for the sequel, when its done please mention it on here as I will keep checking for it. Onto Scary Mary, no doubt just as good.
Denise no idea what my URL is so had to select anon lol

Rebekah, I'm so sorry for not replying sooner! I definitely read your comments soon after you posted. I'm glad you liked how I imagined unicorns. I stayed pretty traditional with their appearance but I tried to make my unicorns distinct from lore. I hope you were able to take a nap!

Denise,

No worries about URLs. You can just type a name and not supply anything else. I hope you like Scary Mary, too! I will mention it on here and everywhere I think appropiate. Thanks!

Let me say I loved your book! I could not put it down. I will gladly pay for the next one when you finish it! It was truly an awesome read. However, I have a weird question, why did you leave us hanging as far as the adult themes go? I felt like there was an awesome build up of sparks between these characters, and then we were left out as readers,:-(. After all the teasing I wanted a solid coming together of Tavik and Naomi.

S.A. Hunter said...

Anon, good question. I agree that fade to black at the end is pretty evil. My thinking was that it was an awesome place to end the book, readers would know where things were headed and could probably imagine a better scene than I could write, and because I was sort of digging the idea of having no actual sex in the whole book. It was one big tease...And Dragon Prey is shaping up to be the same way. (I don't know how that's happening, but it is.) I don't know if I'm being subconsiously evil or prudish.

It has truly been a long since I've read a book that has been bust out loud laughing, not just once but threw out the entire book. Thank you for such a wonderful book. Unicorn Bait just makes you happy to read and I do look forward to there being a sequeal.

poppinpepper,

First, great name! :-) I'm so happy UB made you laugh. Writing humor can be tricky. Writing anything well can be tricky, really, but I really wanted to make people laugh. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

I gotta say your book was really REALLY great ;w;. Ah- despite my username supergal12000, (i made it at that age and never went from it ^^; ) I'm an older teen and the name Unicorn in any book made my school chum's heads turn, but the first day I decided to read it was the day I realized how much fun I could have reading again- your book was wonderful for me and made me smile and cry and just emotion all over the place! :3 What with all the school forced novels I have to read for class I was slowly turning away from any kind of pleasure reading from the bitter taste the forced reading left me with. I'm not sure what made me take the book the first time I read the cover but I'll always thank you for this. My deep love for books have been restored thanks to you <3 and if a sequel were to come out I'd be the first supporter to buy it with my last penny. So anyways, ramble ramble- thank you for writing Unicorn Bait :]

I'll always be a fan ^-^

Hi Supergal12000,

I'm so glad you enjoy reading again! I know in high school reading began to become a real chore for me, too because of all the depressing books I was forced to read. Ethan Frome about broke me. Finding stories that reinvigorate you is a wonderful thing, and I'm glad Unicorn Bait could do that for you.

Anonymous,

I understand :-) Typing with a touchpad is tough. I'm working on a sequel to Unicorn Bait. It will be out sometime this year. Thanks!

I downloaded Unicorn Bait because it was a free kindle book with a premise that looked interesting. I'm 48 years old and have read thousands of fantasy and science fiction books throughout my life. Since I got the kindle I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of free books available, and yours was one of the better ones I've read. I read it through in one sitting and it kept me entertained the whole time. I think it is every bit as good or better than plenty of books I've paid for. I like your writing style and humor, and the book didn't really have any dull moments.

Pleas, please write a sequell. This was a awesome read. I didnt want it to end, thsnk you

Anon,

Thank you so much! I am working on, but am focusing (again) on the third in the Scary Mary series. I've hit a bit of a snag in writing, but I'm still pushing for 2 books this year!

This is why I love the internet...I'm sure I never would have found Unicorn Bait without it, plus I wouldn't have the opportunity to write directly to the author so easily! After reading this book a few months ago I immediately went back and read it again...today marked the fourth re-reading, and I'm sure it's not the last! I can honestly say that Unicorn Bait is in my top five favorites! Thank you thank you thank you for writing Unicorn Bait, not to mention the Scary Mary series! I love it all!

NarniaNerd,

I love your name! I read C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe in fifth grade, and it was the first book that got me interested in reading. I was a struggling student, but reading that book for class really sparked something in me. I began to love reading and have never stopped.

I'm really happy UB is such a joy for you. Thank you so much for stopping by to let me know.

I found Unicorn Bait as a suggestion on my Kindle, it was free, so I thought why not. I truly enjoyed the story and even began suggesting it to friends. A few of them have read it and enjoyed it as well.

Nice to see you're working... or were working, on a sequel. I've tried NaNoWriMo, myself. I managed to finish a couple years ago. The dares and typing races were always so fun!

S.A. Hunter said...

Indigo Lllama,

Love the name! I have to admit that Unicorn Bait is no longer free. It is $.99 now. You can lend it to friends I believe if you wish. I'm hoping it generates some extra funds to help with production costs of future books. Yeah, I had to put Dragon Prey away for a little bit because I was driving myself crazy. I was thinking about doing all these edits to Unicorn Bait which would have changed the story for Dragon Prey drastically. I was making myself sick with worry. I don't plan on changing any major plot points anymore to Unicorn Bait. It is staying as is with only some grammar and punctuation corrections planned in the future. It's getting proofread again, and I hope to upload the corrected version sometime soon. Thanks!

Thanks!

I started reading this and couldnt stop. Finished in one day... I couldn't stop, laundery be damned, kids feed yourselves, cause mommy's busy!! (True story!) I immediately looked for a sequel, and when i couldn't find one, started having withdrawls. :( im a 32 year old floridian, have two children, aged 15 & 8. I absolutely loved this story! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy, romance and/or just a well written story. Thank you for writting it. I sincerely hope there will be a sequel, while i still want to read one!! Id love more adventures of Naomie and her new family. Id love to read of her bond w/ Tavic grow stronger, and finding a way to visit or call home & being introduced to Yulas sons, & other interesting and majical characters. But especially, Naomie & Tavics marriage blossoming......just saying, thats what i'd like. :) Thanks again for the adventure!! I truely enjoyed it! Very entertaining!!
Kind Regards, Jen.

Howdy, Stephanie: I just read UB which my wife downloaded from Kindle a while back. I very much liked your blending of humor and deadly serious situations. You really should charge for all your work, or at least your sequels. Just FYI, I did see a few typos like Taylor/Tailor, but don't let that discourage you. Gotta go for now - I'm burning moonlight (ha!). /John from Montana

S.A. Hunter said...

Hi Jen,

I hope your kids can forgive me. Dragon Prey will definitely have some of what you went. Yula's sons don't feature in the story, though it would be neat to meet them. They seem like good men, and they are very good to their mother. I''m so happy you liked Unicorn Bait!

Hi John,

Thanks for pointing out the problem with Naomi's mercurial last name. It should be Taylor in the final version. (I have to admit that this is not the first time I've had changing last names. In Scary Mary, Vicky's last name switched a few times too unfortunately.) I'm trying to do better and am compiling a master list of names so this shouldn't be an issue in the future. Thanks!
